A Major Milestone! Mataranka to Katherine - 106kms

Yesterday, at Territory Manor Caravan Park, before we'd even checked in, Will and sister Chloe approached us with a donation. Thanks so much to both and their parents.

As planned, left this morning at 6.00am, in the dark, with our lights on. Eerie at first being unable to see what gears we were using or the state of the road.

Smelled smoke after recent burnoffs and spotted the occasional tree trunk still alight in the darkness.
Seeing the bush gradually appear as the sun came up was magical.

Made great progress, stopping every 10km for water, a natter and the odd snack. By 10.00am we were hot and sweating. Road works forced a short, dusty detour that we walked.

Spotted a cycle track around 10kms out of town. With heavy traffic on the highway today, we were pleased to enjoy a meandering, safe track into town.

Arrived Katherine at 1.30pm and thankful to be out of the heat of the afternoon.
Dozens of wedge tail eagles soar on the hot air currents above - quite a sight!

Checked into Katherine Motel, unpacked, then headed off to nearby Woolworths for food for dinner.
Special thank you to Dylan (in Woolworths) who approached us with a donation. Much appreciated.
Donations can be found on the "givealittle" site under "donations".

Taking a 3 night break in Katherine before we head westwards towards Broome.
