Road Works! Katherine to Mathison Rest Area - 103kms

Left the motel at 6.00am, fully loaded and lit up like a Christmas Tree.

Met Lochlan at the gate in the dark who, after a quick chat, gave us a donation. Thanks so much, Lochlan.

Got off to a good start on the Victoria Highway, but soon the road became a roller coaster of long, gradual hills and hollows.

The weight of the extra water and food quickly sapped our energy, especially Del's as he was already heavily laden withe tent and spare parts.

Negotiated two sections of road works, which involved cycling like mad as soon as we had the green light. Each time the opposing traffic, including road trains, was on its way towards us before we could get to the other end and we had to dodge behind the orange cones to avoid them.

Arrived at the rest area hot and tired. Luckily found a small patch of red, stony ground before the caravan invasion. Not a space was left by late afternoon.

The Dempsters, whose caravan was parked next to us, kindly offered us a bottle of chilled water - bliss - and a donation. We are continually moved by these generous gestures of support. Thank you Pete and Irene.

In bed by 6.30pm.
PS. A big day today and little time for photos, I'm afraid.
