Preparation! Last Day in Katherine

The route from Katherine to Broome is full of challenges for a couple of cyclists.

There will be many roadside camps and, because we'll be crossing the Pinkerton Range, hills and headwinds could force us to reduce our daily mileage. We'll have around 14 days of hills!
We must carry enough water and food to allow for extra stoppages. We've also stocked up on gas canisters.

Today Del checked over the bikes and cleaned and lubricated the chains, while I squeezed the extra food and water into the trailers.

We'll each carry 6kgs of water and Del an extra 4kgs in drinks bottles. Some dried and tinned foods will have to be carried in back packs.

It's been a good break. We've done all that we planned - and our dry, flaking skin got a good moisturising, too.

From tomorrow we'll have early starts with our lights on, to avoid cycling in the heat of the afternoon, though often we'll be forced to.
We'll be out of mobile contact fairly frequently but I'll blog daily and post them all as soon as I'm able.

Ps. Pics show:
1. A sign outside the local pub
2. Wedge tail eagles waiting for air currents to develop.
3. Katherine's main street
